Day tour to Petra by ferry from Sharm el-Sheikh
No overnight stay
From Sharm el-Sheikh and Dahab the tours cross the Gulf of Aqaba by boat and make Petra a single, very long day. The visa and the Petra ticket are in the price.
The short answer
Yes, you can visit Petra from Sharm el-Sheikh or Dahab, but only as a day of 18 to 22 hours: a bus to the coast at Taba, a ferry across to Aqaba, the drive to Petra and the same way back. Both tours include the Jordanian visa, the Petra ticket, a guide and lunch, and reviewers report about 3 hours in Petra itself.
The tour from Dahab is non-refundable. We found no bookable tour from Hurghada and no two-day tour from the Sinai.
Pick a day, or the first and last day you can travel. We check the booking calendar of every Petra and Wadi Rum tour on this page and show which ones still have places. For a two-day tour, the date is the day you start.

Petra lies about 2 hours by road from Aqaba, and Aqaba faces the Sinai across the gulf. The tours below collect you at your hotel at night, put you on the boat at Taba and hand you to a guide in Petra. They differ in the start time, the length of the day and, above all, in the cancellation terms.
Sorted by number of reviews. The Dahab tour cannot be cancelled, changed or refunded once booked.

From the tour listings, read in November 2026. Options change, so check the one you book before you pay.
The Petra tour from Dahab is sold as non-refundable: according to the listing it cannot be changed for any reason, and there is no refund on cancellation or amendment. The ferry depends on the weather, and travel advice can change at short notice. If you are not certain of your dates, the Sharm el-Sheikh tour can be cancelled free of charge up to 24 hours before the start.
Sun Pyramids Tours collects you at your hotel just before midnight. The car takes about 2.5 hours to Taba, then comes the border and the ferry to Aqaba, which the operator puts at about 2 hours 20 minutes; AB Maritime, which runs the fast ferry between Taba Heights and Aqaba, gives 45 minutes to an hour for that crossing. In Jordan you have about 10 hours including the drive to Petra, a 3-hour guided tour, free time, a shopping stop and lunch at a local restaurant. The ferry back and 2 hours by car bring you to Sharm around midnight, 22 hours after pickup. Reviewers report 3 to 4 hours in Petra and up to an hour of waiting for the ferry. If the ferry is cancelled, the operator takes the group overland through the Arava border crossing instead.
Send a copy of your passport to the operator at least 2 days before the tour. Guides speak English, Russian, Italian, German or French. Drinks and water at lunch and tips are extra.
Dahab Safari Day Tours picks up at all hotels in Dahab at 03:00. The bus goes to Taba, the boat runs from Taba Heights to Aqaba, and an air-conditioned vehicle covers the roughly 1.5 hours to Petra. The itinerary gives about 4 hours in Petra with a licensed English-speaking guide, through the Siq to the Treasury, the Street of Facades, the Royal Tombs and Qasr al-Bint; reviewers report closer to 3 hours. The group can be up to 30 people. Visa, entry fees and lunch are included; the passport copy goes to the guide after booking. The listing mentions the Siq on horseback or on foot and leaves tips for the horses to you. Walking is free and possible on every path.
One day means Egyptian and Jordanian border controls in both directions, two boat rides and, as one reviewer counted, about 16 hours in vehicles and on ferries for 3 to 4 hours at the site. Petra on a day without a night in Jordan also costs the higher day-visitor ticket, 90 JD instead of 50 JD as of November 2026, according to the Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority; on both tours it is already included. We found no bookable two-day tour from Sharm el-Sheikh or Dahab with a night in Wadi Rum on the platforms this site uses.
If you want two days, you can take the ferry on your own: AB Maritime runs a fast ferry between Taba Heights and Aqaba on a weekly timetable, published online and worth checking 24 hours before, and a slower ferry from Nuweiba that takes 2.5 to 3.5 hours. Leaving Jordan by sea, a departure fee of 10 JD is due in cash, according to AB Maritime (as of November 2026). In Aqaba you continue with a day trip to Petra or a camp night in Wadi Rum. With two full nights in Jordan the Jordan Pass starts to make sense.
On both tours the operator arranges the Jordanian visa and it is part of the price. Travelling on your own, you meet a disagreement between the sources: the German Federal Foreign Office lists 40 JD for the visa on arrival at Aqaba airport, while the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority states on aqaba.jo that arrivals through the port and the airport get a free visa (both as read in November 2026). Ask the ferry operator or the authority before you go.
Do not buy a Jordan Pass for these day tours. It would cover the Petra ticket and the visa that the tour already includes, and its visa waiver needs at least two full nights in Jordan anyway, according to jordanpass.jo. More on the Jordan Pass.
We found no bookable Petra tour from Hurghada, neither by ferry nor by plane, on GetYourGuide or Viator. The long day trips from Hurghada go to Luxor by road or to Cairo and the pyramids by plane.
For South Sinai, with Sharm el-Sheikh, Dahab, Nuweiba and Taba, the German Federal Foreign Office advises against unaccompanied individual excursions and overland trips and recommends desert trips only with licensed local companies; it warns against travel to North Sinai, apart from the coastal strip and Taba, and against the road from Suez to Taba (version of 20 September 2026). The UK Foreign Office advises against all travel to North Sinai. For Jordan, the German Federal Foreign Office advises against non-essential travel to the whole country since 29 October 2026, while the UK Foreign Office (updated 30 October 2026) advises against travel only to parts of it. Read the current advice of your own government for both countries before you book.
From the booking page of the Sharm el-Sheikh tour, critical ones included. They agree on the length of the day and the short time in Petra; one reviewer had about three hours including the walk in and out. The critical ones add a guide who explained little, a slow immigration process, a start delayed by three hours and a stomach upset after the lunch.
“Great trip to do but a really long day. Lots of time on the coach. Worth the travel time. Lots of walking on site too.”
“Fantastic day out awesome seeing the treasury for the first time and the guides were great”
“My trip to Petra from Sharm el-Sheikh was a mixed experience. Petra itself is absolutely stunning, but the time spent there was very limited. around three hours in total, including the walk in and out, which left little time to properly explore. The organization of the trip was disappointing. While Russian and Polish groups received detailed explanations from their guides, our English-speaking guide provided very little information and lacked communication, even failing to inform us about meal stops. “We started the trip being 3 hours delayed, which was already at night. Driver in Jordan drove like a maniac, but I guess that’s standard driving over there DO NOT eat the vegetables in the restaurant, they offer lunch at, as you will get very sick. Overall kind guides & hospitable. Didn’t have cash for water in the bus during the home ride & was given one for free.”

About 22 hours. Pickup is just before midnight, and you are back at your hotel around midnight the next day. Reviewers report 3 to 4 hours in Petra itself.
Yes, on both tours, together with the Petra ticket, a guide and lunch. Send a copy of your passport in advance: at least 2 days before for the Sharm tour, after booking for the Dahab tour.
No. According to the listing it is non-refundable and cannot be changed for any reason. The tour from Sharm el-Sheikh can be cancelled free of charge up to 24 hours before the start.
On the Sharm el-Sheikh tour the operator takes the group overland through the Arava border crossing instead. The ferries depend on the weather; AB Maritime publishes its timetable online.
No. The tours include the visa and the Petra ticket, and the visa waiver of the pass needs at least two full nights in Jordan, according to jordanpass.jo.
