Petra, Wadi Rum and Dead Sea 2-day tour from Amman (Jordan Private Tours)
Overnight: Wadi Rum camp, classic or deluxe tent
Petra on the first day, a night in a Bedouin camp in the desert, a jeep tour and the Dead Sea on the way back. The tours differ mainly in the tent, the guide and the fees left for you to pay.
The short answer
Yes, two days from Amman are enough for the main sights of Petra and a night in a Wadi Rum camp, and most tours add the Dead Sea on the way back. On day one you drive about 3 hours south, walk Petra from the Siq to the Treasury and beyond, and reach the camp for dinner; on day two a 2-hour jeep tour takes you through the desert before the long drive north.
What the tours usually leave out: the Petra ticket, a guide inside Petra (most come with an English-speaking driver) and the Dead Sea resort. Plan for these before you compare prices.
Pick a day, or the first and last day you can travel. We check the booking calendar of every Petra and Wadi Rum tour on this page and show which ones still have places. For a two-day tour, the date is the day you start.

From the tour listings, read in November 2026. Options change, so check the one you book before you pay.
Pickup is at your hotel in Amman in the morning; the group options of the flagship tour meet at the Olive Tree Hotel car park and leave at a fixed time. The Desert Highway covers the roughly 235 km to Petra in about 3 hours, according to the Jordan Tourism Board; the King's Highway, the older road through the hills, takes 4 to 4.5 hours. The Petra-only tour goes that way, with stops at Dana or Mujib, Shobak Castle and Little Petra.
At Petra you walk from the Visitor Center through the Siq, the narrow gorge that opens onto the Treasury. The flagship itinerary goes on to the Monastery and the High Place of Sacrifice, both long climbs on stone steps; the Petra Magics tour leaves the pace to you. On both, the driver waits outside and you explore on your own unless you hire a guide. Reviews of the Petra Magics tour say more time in Petra would have been welcome. In the afternoon the car heads about 107 km south to Wadi Rum, 1.5 to 2 hours, where you arrive at the camp for dinner. On the Petra Magics tour the 2-hour jeep tour comes the same evening.
On the flagship tour the 2-hour jeep tour through the desert comes after breakfast. Then the car drives north to the Dead Sea for time to float, and you are back at your Amman hotel in the evening. Access to a resort on the shore, with showers and lunch, is extra on most tours: on the flagship tour it is included only on the mid-size group option, and the Petra Magics listing asks for cash to the driver, naming the fee once in pounds and once in dollars. On the private Ayla tours trip it is part of the all-inclusive option. The Jordan Pass does not cover the Dead Sea.
The three-day tour spreads this out: Madaba, Mount Nebo and Shobak on day one with a night near Petra, Petra and Little Petra on day two before the camp, and the jeep, Aqaba and the Dead Sea on day three.
The night is spent in a Bedouin camp with dinner and breakfast. The flagship tour offers a classic tent with a shared bathroom and no air conditioning, or a deluxe tent with its own bathroom and air conditioning or heating; one tent sleeps up to three people. The Petra Magics tour uses deluxe tents only, not shared with other bookings. Both listings state that their tents are not the transparent bubble or "Martian" domes, which are a separate, higher category. On the private Ayla tours trip the deluxe tent depends on the option you book. More on Wadi Rum camps.
On every tour on this page the Petra ticket is paid separately unless you choose an all-inclusive option. As of November 2026 a one-day ticket costs 50 JD for visitors who spend at least one night in Jordan, 55 JD for two days and 60 JD for three, according to the Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority. You pay in cash in Jordanian dinars at the Visitor Center. Wadi Rum charges its own small fee at the entrance to the protected area.
A guide inside Petra is not included on most tours. "English-speaking driver" means someone who drives you to the sites and waits; the flagship tour adds local guides in Petra and Wadi Rum only on the mid-size group option, and the three-day tour sells a 2-hour Petra guide as an add-on. Local guides can also be hired at the Visitor Center. Lunch on both days, drinks, tips and travel insurance are extra on the flagship tour.
The Jordan Pass combines the tourist visa with entry to Petra, Wadi Rum and other sites. As of November 2026 it costs 70 JD with one day in Petra, 75 JD with two and 80 JD with three, according to jordanpass.jo. The visa fee is only waived if you buy the pass before you arrive and stay in Jordan for at least two full nights (three days). The single night of a two-day tour is not enough on its own, so the pass pays off if you spend more nights in Amman before or after the tour. Without it, German citizens pay 40 JD for the visa on arrival at Queen Alia airport, according to the German Federal Foreign Office (as of November 2026). More on the Jordan Pass.
From the booking pages of the two- and three-day tours on this page, critical ones included; each card names its tour. The critical reviews make three points. The driver is not a guide: one reviewer was dropped at each site without information, another wanted more history and fewer riddles. The camp can disappoint: one guest describes a dirty bubble tent with no hot water, another a room where the air conditioning had not been switched on. And extras cost money on the day, from water at the Dead Sea resort to fuel for the car on the three-day tour, which one guest paid for although the listing does not mention it.
“One of the best tours we have ever done! Since it was just the two of us, we basically had a private tour with Odai, the driver, who suggested things to do and to see along the way and who was super friendly and very informative. This tour is the best way to spend two days in Jordan and make the best of it. We always felt very welcome and safe and will definitely return.”
“The trip was wonderful because the destinations (especially Petra) are superb. The group was good, the guide Jafar adequate, although we would have expected more stories about the history of this beautiful country rather than riddles to entertain us tourists. […] The time at Petra was also too short (with just an extra hour you could have reached the Monastery). […]”
“The sites visited including Petra and Wadi Rum are of course extraordinary and would always be enjoyable. However our provider Jordan Private tours was very ordinary. I had to chase them the day prior to confirm details which should have been their responsibility. […] The tour guide was completely disengaged and clearly did not want to be there. He just dropped us at each destination without any information on planning and times beforehand and sat in his car. […]”
“I love my experience with Osama as my driver, guide and photographer in Petra, Wadi Rum and Dead Sea. He is very professional in the things he does and have good vibes althroughout the trip. He coordinates with local guides as well with the safety as high priority. Highly recommended!”
“Osama, our driver, was very kind and drove safely throughout the trip. He also helped us find an excellent guide in Petra. The desert sunrise tour and stop at the Dead Sea resort were enjoyable. Unfortunately, our accommodation in Wadi Rum was a major disappointment. The bubble tent was dirty and run-down, with stained sheets, belongings left by previous guests, a bathroom door that wouldn’t close, no hot water and several other issues. […] My advice: confirm the camp’s exact name with the tour operator beforehand and check that you’re taken to the correct one on arrival.”
“Overall the experience met most of our expectations- the trip to Petra was an amazing day far better than I remember from my last visit The driver was very warm and friendly and provided us with some great advice on Jordan including how to get about. […] The room at the camp was ok. The room was fairly clean and spacious but it would have been preferable to have had the AC turned on prior to us moving in. […] The final day at the Dead Sea was the most disappointing as the Hotel staff weren’t very friendly and we had to pay for water”
“Really enjoyed all our excursions, especially Petra, Wadi Rum, Jeep and Camel ride. Petra is truly one of the wonders of the world. Would recommend a guide for Petra especially if you are there for a short time. Our driver Anees was great, he was very knowledgeable, made the driving between locations interesting and enjoyable. […]”
“This has been one of the best tours I have ever taken. My assigned driver, Mohammed Bardaghawi, was extremely kind, attentive, polite, and respectful, and I always felt comfortable with him, very important since I was a female solo traveler. […] The only aspect to consider is that each site visited has an entrance fee and not all of them are covered by the Jordan Pass. Jordan is a beautiful country, and I wish I had spent more time in some of the places. A minimum of five days would be more appropriate than three for these sites.”
“Sahid was our driver and was incredibly prompt, courteous and a safe driver. He wasn’t there as a tour guide but added so much to the journey. It’s a lot of driving. In order to get to the sights you just drive and drive. He helped us select a better tent to stay in wadi rum. […] I’ve never rented a service that was with out fuel. So it struck my odd when we stopped at the gas station and I filled up the car twice. Normally, that’s covered. Kind of strange it didn’t state that in the description. Overall it was a good, safe, clean excursion.! 5 stars”

Advice differs from country to country. As of 2 November 2026 the German Federal Foreign Office advises against non-essential travel to the whole of Jordan (since 29 October 2026) and strongly against the border areas with Syria and Iraq and the north-east. The UK Foreign Office (updated 30 October 2026) advises against all travel only to parts of the country. Both say the situation can change quickly; in spring 2026 flights were heavily restricted, up to closures of the airspace. Read your own government's current advice before you book and keep to tours with free cancellation; all tours on this page can be cancelled free of charge up to 24 hours before the start.
Usually not. The tours from Amman come with an English-speaking driver who takes you to the Visitor Center and waits. Only the mid-size group option of the flagship tour includes local guides in Petra and Wadi Rum, and the three-day tour sells a 2-hour Petra guide as an add-on. Local guides can be hired at the Visitor Center.
The two-day itineraries do not give fixed hours, because the afternoon drive to Wadi Rum sets the limit. The Petra-only trip with a hotel night lists Petra from 07:00 to 14:00. Reviewers of one two-day tour wished they had had more time. If you want to see the Monastery and the High Place of Sacrifice without hurrying, the three-day tour or a hotel night in Wadi Musa gives you the extra hours.
Not on the flagship tour, which does not accept children under 12. Check the other listings before you book. In Petra itself children under 12 enter free, according to the Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority.
Enough Jordanian dinars for the Petra ticket, which is paid in cash at the Visitor Center unless you have the Jordan Pass, and for the Wadi Rum fee. On the Petra Magics tour the Dead Sea resort is paid in cash to the driver. Lunch, drinks and tips are extra on most tours.
Donkeys carry visitors up the roughly 900 steps to the Monastery, and camels and horses wait along the main path. Animal welfare groups such as PETA have documented beatings and overloading; according to PETA an agreement in 2024 brought electric vehicles, vet clinics and water points. Electric cars replaced most horse carriages between the Visitor Center and the Treasury in 2021. No tour on this page includes an animal ride, and every path in Petra can be walked.
Not on the two-day tours, because you spend that evening in the Wadi Rum camp. Petra by Night starts at the Visitor Center at 20:30; in 2025 it ran on Sunday to Thursday evenings. It fits the three-day tour with its evening in Wadi Musa, if the dates match.
